Road Safety

We are committed to improving road safety through programs and educating the community on road safety issues.

A key Road Safety Project Council is currently leading is the Hurstville School Precinct Traffic Study. Updates on the recommendations outlined in this study will be posted here once available.

We are part of the Local Government Road Safety Program (LGRSP). It sees Council work with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to improve road safety in our community. This lets us hire a Road Safety Officer. They identify road safety issues, work with stakeholders, and engage the community to address these issues.

The Road Safety Officer, as part of the LGRSP, develops a road safety action plan. It aims to improve local road safety issues and at-risk groups in the community.

With 40 schools in the local government area, Georges River Council takes school road safety seriously.

Speeding remains the biggest killer on our roads, and within NSW speed contributes to about 40% of the deaths on the roads.
Learner Drivers
Information on learner drivers and a free 2 hour workshop for our community.
Driver Fatigue and Distraction
​Information on driver fatigue and distraction, which is one of the top three contributors to crashes in NSW.
Bicycle Safety
Information on safe cycling in the Georges River area.
