Georges River Council’s Arts, Heritage and Culture Directory aims to provide a platform for individuals, groups, and organisations to showcase their work and services to the general community. You are encouraged to apply to be included in this Directory if you currently live/work in the Georges River, Bayside, Canterbury-Bankstown and Sutherland Shire communities, service the Georges River community, and:

•    are a cultural worker

    Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation

    Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation is a drop in centre for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community living in the Sutherland Shire and St George areas. Kurranulla strives to develop closer ties between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups and promote Aboriginal culture.     Te Rito Whakarerenga - Traditional Artisan Weaving

    Te Rito Whakarerenga was formed in May 2022 to bring the Maori community together specifically during a time of closed borders and the inability to travel to family and friends. Meeting with the purpose of staying connected to our roots through our traditional art of weaving using flax (Phormium tenax), specially prepared for the purpose of weaving traditional and practical items such as food baskets, mats and clothing. We appeal to a wide demographic of all nationalities. We also volunteer through Project Youth assisting in the culture connect programme they run introducing youth to the art of traditional weaving.

    I'm a Yibaay Wagaan Wiradjuri cultural educator and artist, who has been delivering cultural education programs across the Sydney Basin and the Blue Mountains for the past 6 years. Having an extensive knowledge in local plants and their cultural uses has enabled me to work across the Botanic Gardens Trust sites as well as National Parks Blue Mountains branch as an Indigenous ranger delivering syllabus based curriculum linked cultural education programs, to a wide range of demographics. 

    I'm a member of Boomalli Aboriginal Arts Co-Op, my arts practice spans painting workshops to murals to lomandra weaving and cultural artefacts. My art explores cultural change and representation in the contemporary urban environment, the adaptation to environment from cultural perspective. Maps and country are reoccurring subjects in my commissions as these are a central tenant in cultural perspectives and understanding.

    Port Hacking Potters Group

    The Port Hacking Potters Group is a group for ceramic artists. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the Cronulla School of Arts Building in Surf Road Cronulla. At these meetings we discuss the group's activities and also have a guest speaker or a pottery activity. We make regular appearances at market stalls in and outside of the Sutherland Shire.

    The St George Art Society was inaugurated in 1944 ‘for the encouragement of art in the St George district’, to develop the practice of art and art appreciation.

    The St George Creative Art and Craft Centre was established in 1978 to provide a venue for local artists. We provide excellent, low-cost art and craft classes to the community.     St George Motor Boat Photographic Club

    Our aim is to provide a place for like-minded people to get together to explore the world of light and shadow.     Georges River Voices

    Georges River Voices is a community choir for adults based in the Georges River area of Sydney. Our primary objective is to share with others the joy and power of singing together. A non-auditioned choir acapella choir, we sing a diverse range of repertoire, from contemporary, to jazz, classical and world music, welcoming in-tune singers of all abilities ‒ our key requirement is enthusiasm and commitment to turn up to rehearsals. Georges River Voices choir members aim to extend musical knowledge and challenge ourselves to a high musical standard in a safe, inclusive environment.

    Our choir is run by its members, with musical leadership from our musical director. We are inspired by our director and each other to sing our very best. We aim to perform regularly to showcase our work and we want to expand our choir to ensure that we thrive.  Most importantly ‒ we have fun!!

    Happy Singing Tribe

    The Happy Singing Tribe is a community-based singing group that aims to bring joy and togetherness to the Georges River community through music. Our project aims to organise community singing events to promote community bonding, social interaction, and mental well-being. Our unique character is we are not an ordinary choir, and our main performance style is musical storytelling and singing with dancing. Practice occurs over zoom every Wednesday night.

    St George Bank Auditorium

    The St George Auditorium is a unique, theatre style venue offering quality facilities.

    It is ideally suited for business meetings, conferences and seminars. As lighting is minimal and is set up for guest speakers, productions will be required to provide their own freestanding lighting at their own cost.

    Pilar Basa - Illustrator & Graphic Designer

    Hello, name is Pilar and I love drawing. I am an illustrator, artist and designer working on Gadigal land in sunny Sydney. Having trained as a graphic designer and traditional sign-writer, I use a diverse toolbox to help people to express their visual dreams. From boutique bakery packaging in NYC to bespoke wine labels and FMCG for brands like Hersheys and PNG, I’ve done it and I've dug it. Whether it is a full branding project, food packaging or a custom illustration for your newest t-shirt, I love it all.
