As we move into the cooler months, we reflect on what was an incredible summer in the Georges River area. Council’s Summer Events Program was a key feature for us this year, which included Magic of Christmas and the 2018 Australia Day Festival, both held at Carss Bush Park. Both of these local traditions were a big hit with locals and saw massive crowds gather at the park.

In February Council welcomed in the Year of the Dog with our premier Lunar New Year Festival along Forest Road, Hurstville. This year, our Lunar New Year Festival was the biggest it has ever been with more live performances, activities, amusement rides, market stalls and, for the very first time, a vibrant float parade. I hope everyone enjoyed this spectacular event – it was fantastic to see the community come together to celebrate this unique cultural event.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who were involved in the planning and running of our summer events. I especially would like to thank the St George Local Area Command, Hurstville SES and St John Ambulance for supporting these events. I must also extend my gratitude to all the sponsors who came on board for our Summer Events Program and helped create a festive atmosphere at each of these great local events.
