Sustainability

Sustainability involves thinking about the type and amount of resources we use, ensuring that we meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As a community, it is important for us to consider our impact and take steps to protect and conserve our natural environment.

Our Top Tips for Sustainable Living

Save Energy

  • Replace old incandescent or halogen lights with LED lights.
  • Buy appliances with a high energy-saving rating
  • Only heat or cool the room you are using
  • Close windows and doors to prevent heat loss
  • Turn off appliances at the wall to stop them going on standby
  • Consider installing solar or switching to Green Power.

 Recycling and Waste

  • Grow your own food
  • Take reusable bags to the supermarket
  • Purchase recycled products.
  • Set up a recycling box in your home
  • Take part in Council's waste and environmental sustainability workshops and events
  • Recycle chemicals, batteries and electronics at specific Council collection days or at a dedicated recycling facility.

Save Water

  • Spend less than four minutes in the shower
  • Only use the washing machine and dishwasher when there is a full load
  • Replace high-flow shower heads with low-flow water efficient shower heads
  • Water your garden in the early morning or late afternoon to prevent water loss through evaporation
  • Install a dual-flush toilet.
