Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We value diversity of thought and experience and believe that our inclusive culture contributes to our success. We are a diverse workforce that reflects our contemporary, multicultural community. We celebrate and promote this diversity as a strength of our organisation.

Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee in collaboration with other teams across the organisation are working towards achieving the actions and goals outlined in our Equal Employment Opportunity Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan 2019 -2021.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and thriving workplace culture that celebrates differences in all its forms. Georges River Council will ensure employees do not face unnecessary barriers to participating in or realising their potential in employment.

Youth Inclusion

Council has committed to attracting, recruiting, developing and retaining youth (under 25) and young professionals (35 and under) by investing in a Youth and Young Professional Plan. We will ensure we develop a talent pipeline for the future, which will enable effective succession and workforce planning, enabling Council to employ and retain individuals with fresh ideas, new experiences and diverse perspectives.

Disability Inclusion

Council is committed to having an inclusive workplace where people with disability have equal access to employment and development opportunities. By developing a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) Council aims to attract, recruit, develop and retain people with disability. In line with the DIAP, Council is committed to making our community more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Multicultural Inclusion

Through the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Employee Plan, we aim to increase the representation of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in our workforce. The plan values and embraces the skills, perspectives and experiences of CALD employees to assist with providing culturally appropriate programs within Council. Council aims to celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of our people, provide a culturally safe and inclusive workplace and have a positive impact on social cohesion.

Mature Age Inclusion

We aim to develop a progressive workplace that supports mature age employees. Council's Mature Age Employee Plan is designed to ensure that the skills and knowledge of matured aged employees is retained within the organisation, whilst supporting them as they take the next step in life into retirement.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Inclusion

Council acknowledges that Bidjigal people of the Eora Nation are the original inhabitants and custodians of all land and water in the Georges River region.

The First Nations Strategy Working Group seeks to improve the employment outcomes and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at Council. We will endeavour to adopt and apply the principles of recognition, respect, equity and access, participation, consultation and opportunity to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community and employed by Council.
