Work begins on Olds Park Skate Park and Netball Court Precinct

22/06/2023

Georges River Council has engaged a contractor to complete the construction of the Olds Skate Park and Netball Courts precinct. This work will include the demolition of the existing facilities and the creation of a fantastic new active recreation zone featuring a modern skatepark and multi-sport courts.

This project has a budget of $4.2 million and is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Georges River Council under the Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund who provided a $1 million contribution.

Council’s desire to develop a regionally significant sporting precinct at Olds Park is demonstrated within the 2020 Master Plan for the site, which focuses on providing sporting facilities suitable for all sporting users including women/girls and people with disabilities. Council has developed strong sporting facility protocols that ensures Council continues to develop facilities that empower community members to be able to participate in all aspects of life, including sport, freely and safely, developing positive social and health outcomes.

Notification of construction has been distributed to surrounding residents, sporting clubs and broader community through letterbox drops and site signage. Alternative sporting venues have been offered to netball by Council’s Programming and Operations Team to mitigate impact for the remaining period of the 2023 season.

This construction will enable the utilisation of a significant state of the art sporting and community recreation facility in 2024, which meets best practice and community demand.

There will be no public access to the current netball courts and skatepark areas during this time and pedestrian detours will be in place. Work is expected to commence in June 2023 and will be carried out Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 6.00pm and on Saturdays between 8.00am and 1.00pm (if required).

Mayor Nick Katris said, “It is great to hear that work to develop a fantastic, new, state of the art recreation zone in Olds Park is to begin in June. This is a great addition to our community and will be a fantastic place for community members to come and get active.

“I know our community will be patient with this construction stage because the new facilities coming are going to be worth the brief disruption.”
