As the closing date for nominations for Georges River Council's 2024 Australia Day Awards approaches, we’re asking everyone to nominate local legends across three award categories.
Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir has issued a final callout to community members to submit their nominations before Friday 27 October 2023 at 4.00 pm.
“The Australia Day Awards are a wonderful way to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional individuals who go above and beyond to make Georges River a better place for all of us,” Mayor Elmir said.
“This is your last chance to help our community recognise and celebrate someone you know in Georges River who does great things for others, so please nominate someone who you believe has made a positive impact in our community.
“Let’s come together to celebrate their achievements and their efforts to make Georges River a better place to live.”
The Australia Day Awards recognise outstanding individuals in our community who have made remarkable contributions to Georges River, with three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.
The awards are a significant annual event and aim to shine a light on those who have shown dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the Georges River community.

Citizen of the Year: Recognising a person who has made outstanding contributions to the Georges River community through their leadership, innovation, or community service.

Young Citizen of the Year: Honouring a young individual (25 years and under) who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and achievement in their chosen field or community involvement.

Volunteer of the Year: Celebrating an individual who has given their time and effort selflessly to support various community causes and organisations.
Nominations for the awards can be submitted by any members of the community who wish to highlight the achievements of deserving candidates.
