Services for Seniors

Meal deliveries for Seniors

Meal services are more important than ever with older people being asked to stay at home as much as possible.

The government has released a targeted meal package that prioritises home delivery for senior Australians registered with My Aged Care.

Seniors who don’t have access to the internet can call the My Aged care contact centre direct on 1800 200 422.

The government is also working with grocery suppliers on priority access to their online and telephone shopping for older and vulnerable people including those registered with My Aged Care.

For more information, click through to the fact sheet.

Home Care Package Program

The Home Care Package Program supports older people with complex needs to help them stay at home. The support provides a mix of services including:

  • Help with household tasks

  • Equipment (such as walking frames)

  • Minor home modifications

  • Personal care

  • Clinical care such as nursing, allied health and physiotherapy.

There are four levels of Home Care Packages – from level 1 for basic care needs to level 4 for high care needs.

For more information, see the Home Care Packages website.

In emergency situations, if an older Australian has fully allocated their Home Care Package, they may access short term home support services for a range of services including nursing, personal care and meals.

Speak with your home care provider about these measures or see the fact sheet for older Australians on COVID-19.

Lawn mowing and gardening care

We offer senior residents information and support to assist with a number of options for basic garden and lawn mowing assistance.

To be eligible you must be registered with My Aged Care.

You can get in contact with My Aged Care using any of the following ways:

Nature strip mowing

Nature strips are the Council-owned land located between the constructed road and private property. Nature strips contribute significantly to the streetscape and appearance of local neighbourhoods.  It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain the nature strips directly outside their house. This also includes front, side and rear grass nature strips. Council will not mow residential nature strips.

Council is responsible for repairing unsafe turf on nature strips.

If your nature strip is unsafe, please lodge a service request on Council’s website using the Mowing & Gardening classification. These requests will be assessed as a priority and made safe within 24 hours. Any additional works will be scheduled to be completed. Please note, timeframes may vary depending on type of works required.

Verge Garden Program

Verge gardens can replace the grass on the nature strip outside a resident’s property with low maintenance plants or a garden. You can plant a selection of native grasses, wildflowers, small shrubs or native ground coverings.

3Bridges Community in partnership with Mortdale Men’s Shed has been awarded a grant by Georges River Council to run a pilot vibrant verge program for residents in the Georges River area. We support the planting of verge gardens which make a positive contribution to the local streetscape.

Residents wishing to establish a verge garden can apply to 3Bridges Community for approval prior to undertaking any such works.

You can find out more about the 3Bridges Community verge garden program by calling 1300 327 434.
