Nepalese Journeys: Migration and Community of St George

Main Gallery
2026

In 2026, Hurstville Museum & Gallery will present an exhibition exploring Nepalese migration and stories of the Nepalese community of the St George area.

The exhibition title is yet to be confirmed but through personal stories, cultural objects, photographs, art, and contemporary and historical materials, the exhibition will explore Nepalese migration stories and the contemporary Nepalese community of the Georges River region. It will also showcase Nepalese culture including history, music, art, and religion and more.

We invite members of the Nepalese community, or those with personal or family connections, to get involved by sharing stories, ideas, or offering items for temporary display or donations to help bring this exhibition to life.

We recognise this very personal request and are mindful of the sensitivities surrounding the theme of this exhibition. The exhibition aims to celebrate Nepalese culture and to tell stories of the Nepalese community in the St George area and their migration and life experiences, and that is why we are reaching out to the community directly, to ensure the voices, experiences, and perspectives of the community are represented in a way that feels true and meaningful.
