Mayoral Column - Young Artists Shine Bright at the Culture in Colour: Mayoral Art Competition Exhibition

13/06/2025

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the Culture in Colour: Mayoral Art Competition exhibition at Hurstville Library—a vibrant celebration of the many cultures and traditions that shape our Georges River community!

This competition invited children across the Georges River area to celebrate the days of significance that are special to them. From the bright lights of Diwali to the festive fun of Christmas, the colour and tradition of Lunar New Year to the spirit of Eid al-Fitr, each artwork tells a story that matters. It’s so inspiring to see the creativity of our young artists!

When children see their own culture recognised and celebrated by the wider community, it helps them feel seen, supported, and proud. It also provides everyone a chance to learn more about each other and to appreciate the diversity that makes our community so vibrant.

Congratulations to all the young artists who took part, and to the winners who received certificates and vouchers to continue exploring their creativity. Thank you for sharing your story, culture, and creativity with us!

The exhibition is open to everyone at Hurstville Library until Sunday 30 June 2025. I encourage you to drop by, take a look, and celebrate the rich mix of cultures that shape who we are in Georges River.
