Mayoral Column - Thank you for helping shape the next 10 years in Georges River

06/06/2025

I would like to sincerely thank everyone in our community who helped us shape the draft documents for our 10-Year Community Vision and Strategic Plans. Your insights, ideas, and perspectives have played a vital role in shaping a roadmap for our future. So many of you took the time to attend one of our pop-ups or workshops and engaged with us either through completing the survey or providing feedback.

The draft Community Strategic Plan 2025-2035 (the Plan) is more than just a document. It is a shared vision for the next decade—developed by the community, for the community. It outlines the aspirations, priorities and goals that will guide Council and partner organisations in making decisions that reflect your values and meet the needs of our growing and evolving region.

Developed through extensive community consultation in November 2024, the draft Plan was revised to ensure alignment with the evolving needs of residents, businesses, and services across Georges River.

During our last round of consultation, we asked you to identify what you valued most in our six pillars by participating in our Five Word Challenge. This helped us refine the six pillars of The Plan to make it more accessible and usable for our community and stakeholders.

We also gathered hundreds of responses to come up with our new Community Vision Statement: A connected community that prioritises diversity, sustainability and green spaces.

At the April Council meeting, Council endorsed the draft Plan, Delivery Program 2025–2029, Operational Plan 2025–2026, and Resourcing Strategy 2025–2026 for public exhibition.

The draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan prioritise projects, services, and partnerships that address immediate community needs while laying foundations for long-term objectives.

The Resourcing Strategy outlines how Council will manage the allocation of its resources to support the Delivery Program and Operational Plan.

Consultation on these documents closed 2 June 2025, and we are now reviewing your submissions.

By taking part in this final stage of consultation, you’ve demonstrated the strong civic spirit that defines our community. I’m proud of how engaged and passionate our residents are when it comes to shaping the place we all call home.

The finalised Plan will be presented to Council in the June Council meeting. I encourage you to stay involved as we turn this vision into action.

Together, we are building a future that reflects the hopes of our community—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
