On behalf of Georges River Council, I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the Red Cross Lifeblood opening of Hurstville Donor Centre. This is a significant step forward in supporting our community’s health, and it’s a privilege to have such a vital service available right here in Hurstville.
I would like to thank the Lifeblood staff who have advocated for the Lifeblood Donor Centre. Thanks to all those you have promoted it and donated from our community, the Lifeblood staff, my fellow Councillors, and our Council staff.
In March alone, 216 new donors came forward to help, which is a wonderful testament to the generosity of our community. Your continued commitment to this important cause is greatly appreciated.
My fellow Councillors and Council staff are committed to enhancing collaboration with the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood and the local community. We will continue to raise awareness of blood donation through targeted campaigns, events, and community engagement, ensuring more people understand the vital role blood donation plays in saving lives.
To improve accessibility, Council is facilitating the installation of directional signage to donor centres in key public spaces, as well as including Lifeblood locations in our Council directories. These measures will help guide community members to donation centres and make it easier for them to get involved.
We are also advocating for formal policy support to recognise blood donation as a vital community health initiative. By integrating it into health and wellness programs, we aim to ensure that blood donation remains a central and supported part of our community’s health strategy for years to come.
I encourage all eligible residents to consider donating blood. Your donation could be the difference between life and death for someone in need.
