Georges River Council is pleased to announce that the Join the Club exhibition is now open at Hurstville Museum & Gallery’s Snapshot Gallery.
This nostalgic photographic exhibition invites the community to explore the rich history of local clubs and community groups that have shaped the Georges River area over the decades.
Featuring images from the Georges River Local Studies collection, Join the Club celebrates the diversity of social, sporting, hobby, and charitable clubs that brought people together in meaningful ways. From gardening societies and musical ensembles to volunteer organisations, the exhibition captures the spirit of community connection and shared purpose.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “Join the Club is a wonderful opportunity for residents to reflect on the important role local clubs have played in our community, both past and present.
“The exhibition features our oldest club, the St George Horticultural Society, established in 1892, alongside groups like the Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society, founded in 1955, which continue to play an active role in our community today.
“From choirs and historical societies to swimming clubs, the RSL, and the St George Amateur Theatrical Society, the exhibition invites locals to rediscover the clubs that once defined daily life in the Georges River region.
“We hope it sparks some wonderful memories.”
