Biotechnology for Beginners Series

This is a Council led event.

Hurstville Library
03/09/2024 - 24/09/2025

Biotechnology is the use of living organisms to make or modify products for specific use. See how it affects science labs and our day to day lives through hands-on experiments in this 4 week workshop series.

  • Week 1: Microbiology and streak plating – learn about microbes by growing your own little colonies.

  • Week 2: Plant physiology – learn what plants are made of and see how they grow with your very own take-home experiment.

  • Week 3: Fermentation and Food Preservation – learn how to make food that would survive in deep space.

  • Week 4: DNA extraction and genetics – DNA is the building blocks of all life, and we’re pulling some out of food.

This program has different content and experiments to our previous Biotechnology for Beginners series, so feel free to come back and learn new things if you’ve participated before!
