History Week: Water Stories Cruise
This is a Council led event.
06/09/2025 - Bass & Flinders Cruises.
Embark on a scenic cruise along the Georges River and discover its unique history with the Research and Community History team. You’ll learn more about the rich and complex relationship between people and the Georges River throughout history.
As part of History Week 2025 Water Stories, hear stories of connection, survival, recreation, and change. Discover how the river has been a source of sustenance through fishing and oyster farming, a site of leisure and sport, a route for transport and trade, and a witness to both celebration and tragedy.
Sailing onboard the Bass and Flinders, you will enjoy a 3-hour cruise along the Georges River, from Sans Souci to Salt Pan Creek and back again, with delicious canapes served.
While taking in the beautiful scenery along our route, you will learn more about how people have interacted with the Georges River, as the Georges River Libraries Research and Community History Team share rich stories of the river and its communities. This immersive event celebrates the theme Water Stories and offers a unique way to connect with local history.
About History Week:
History Week is the annual, state-wide celebration of History organised by the History Council of New South Wales. The theme this year is Water Stories.
Water is fundamental to life. It also underpins our histories. From floods to droughts, from oceans to creeks, rivers and wetlands, our pasts are bound up with the ebbs and flows of water. History Week 2025 will engage with stories of how water was cherished, contained, diverted, contaminated, looked after and shared, or withheld.
This event is suitable for ages 16 years and over.
