Welcome to the world of Hush - a world of magic, wonder and mystery. This exhibition features all the original art created for The Hush Treasure Book, an absorbing collection of poems, pictures and stories created by a stellar cast of authors & illustrators.

It includes the preliminary sketches, developmental work, and the final published art in all its forms by 20 of Australia’s best-loved illustrators.

The Hush Treasure Book was specially commissioned by the Hush Music Foundation, famous for its original music albums used in hospitals all around the world.

Baby explorers

Join a tour of the current Main Gallery exhibition, The Hush Treasure Book exhibition, with your little one. 

A special sensory pit of soft and textured materials, interesting sounds, colours and shapes will also be available for your baby to explore.

Creating paperclay characters

Illustrator, Ann James, will lead a fun workshop drawing inspiration from The Hush Treasure Book inviting you to create your own 3D story characters during Book Week.

In this exciting session, through hands-on demonstrations and expert guidance, Ann will unlock the secrets of sculpting captivating 3D characters using paper clay. Discover the art of bringing your   creations to life using watercolours, painting your creations and backdrops – with each character calling out for their stories to be told!

Date & time: Saturday 19 August, 2.30pm - 4.00pm. Age: 5 to 12 years old - This event has passed. 
 

Hush! Secrets of book design

Unleash your creativity alongside design extraordinaire, Lee Burgemeestre - the genius behind the captivating Hush Treasure Book designer! Lee will share the evolution of this collaborative masterpiece by 30 talented creators. Explore diverse illustration styles and writing genres, as Lee unveils her approach and techniques.

No prior skills required. Dive into the design process as Lee demonstrates using InDesign and Photoshop. Then, it's your turn to shine! Together with Lee, design your very own certificate, inspired by the magic of the Hush Treasure Book.

 Creative storytelling

Step into a world of enchantment and creativity with The Hush Treasure Book! Embark on a captivating journey where the power of storytelling intertwines with the joy of crafting. You'll find inspiration to create beautiful crafts that bring the books to life. From crafting fantastical creatures to designing intricate props, The Hush Treasure Book ignites the spark of imagination and nurtures the artist within. 

Age: 6 - 9 years old. Each session will focus on different stories and activities.

Sunday 17 September 2023 – ‘Creative storytelling – Bob Graham’, 3.00 – 4.00pm 
Sunday 8 October 2023 – ‘Creative storytelling – Michael Camilleri & Jackie French’, 3.00 – 4.00pm

 Play with music

Join us for a fun music session! An instructor from Einsteinz Music will guide your children through the fundamentals of music, including beat, pitch, rhythm, and tempo. Witness your little maestros channel their creativity, creating an enchanting musical symphony together. 
 
Each session caters a different age group, and an adult must stay during the session.

Times
Session One: 10.30am - 11.00am (1 to 2.5 years old).
Session Two: 11.15am - 11.45am (2.5 to 4 years old).
 
Cost: $8.00 for one child and one adult.
