Traffic and Transport Studies

Council is carrying out traffic and transport studies across the Georges River area. These studies help us understand current traffic issues and find ways to improve how people travel through the area.

The results will guide future actions to:

  • Improve connections across the road network.

  • Reduce traffic problems.

  • Make roads safer for pedestrians, cyclists and all road users.

We use different types of data and assessments to support the studies, including:

  • Site inspections.

  • Traffic volume and speed counts.

  • Pedestrian counts.

  • Review of past crashes and near-miss incidents.

  • Turning movement counts at intersections.

  • Traffic modelling.

  • Feedback from key stakeholders, where needed.

Types of Studies

  1. Traffic Study
A traffic study is a detailed and data-based review of a traffic issue. It often looks at wider traffic patterns and uses measurements and modelling to understand the problem.

  2. Traffic Investigation
A traffic investigation has a smaller focus. It usually looks at a specific issue or concern. It often leads to short-term or minor improvements, and in some cases, may lead to a larger traffic study.
