Recycling at schools
Council provide school recycling services FREE of charge to schools in the Georges River Area. You can apply for recycling bins at your school by completing and returning the Schools Recycling Application Form.
Return and Earn for schools
Your school can easily get involved in the Return and Earn scheme and teach students about sustainability and recycling whilst earning money for your school. To get involved all you need to do is:
-
Collect the containers in an easy, safe and secure area.
-
Go to a Reverse Vending Machine to return the containers. If you have over 500 containers you can instead go to an Automated Depot.
-
Get refunds or donate the funds from your deposited containers.
Find more information on this on the Return and Earn website.

School Litter Program
We have designed and produced a School Litter Program to help students, teachers and the school community to reduce school yard litter and to cover environmental education themes within the school syllabus. Available for free, Council provides a School Litter Program Guide which contains all the required information and instructions for schools within the Georges River Local Government Area to deliver the program. You can find this below.
The School Litter Program is designed for students from stages 1 - 5. However, all primary and secondary schools within the Georges River Local Government Area are eligible to participate for free.
To register as an interested school, please contact Council’s customer service team on 9330 6400 or on mail@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au .
Speaking for the Planet
Georges River Council supports the international Speaking 4 the Planet initiative by annually facilitating the competition with local high schools.
In June 2019, Georges River Council celebrated World Environmental Day with local high schools by hosting the Speaking 4 the Planet competition.
It was a wonderful day of creativity, team work and learning about being environmentally responsible.
