When you have unwanted items that cannot be reused, donated, or sold you can book a Kerbside Clean Up.

Before booking a Kerbside Clean Up collection please see Councils Reduce, Reuse and Recycle page

Each eligible property in the Georges River area is available to use up to two free Kerbside Clean Up collections each calendar year.
Multi unit dwellings consisting of 6 or more units must contact their Strata or Body Corporate to organise a Kerbside Clean Up with Council.

  • How much can I place out for collection?

Each property is entitled to 2 collections per year. Each collection is for accepted items of 3 metres x 1 metre x 1 metre in size.

Each property can make two bookings in a year or choose to utilise both entitlements in the one booking. This means, the service can be booked as 2 x 3 cubic metre collections to occur on two occasions throughout the year or 1 x 6 cubic metre collection to occur on one occasion throughout the year.

  • My Kerbside Clean Up collections have been used. What can I do now?

Each property is entitled to 2 x 3 cubic metre collections per year. If both collections have been used for the year, you will need to arrange for the recycling or collection of your items. Some options you can consider are as followed.

    • Contact the Bower Reuse & Repair Centre who provide a Reuse, Repair and collection service. Use the online reuse database which provides details of organisations that may be able to accept your items for recycling, reuse or repair.

    • Check out Council's Reuse, Repair and Recycle webpage.

    • Search for waste and recycling facilities using the Recycling Near You database.

    • Ask your local op shop and charities if they can accept your items for resale.

    • Try the Recycle Mate app for other options on disposal.

  • Do I need to plan for a booking?

Yes. Please book at least 2 weeks in advance of your requested collection date.

Note - During peak periods, wait times can take up to 8 weeks.

  • I have received a non-compliance letter. What do I do now?

A non-compliance letter will be left if items are placed on the Kerbside that are NOT on the accepted list or are not compliant. Check your booking confirmation email for Terms and Conditions.

This includes untied garden waste or heavy items. These items are noted on the letter. These items must be removed from the Kerbside immediately.

Fines for illegal dumping apply if excess and incorrect materials are not removed from the kerbside within 24 hours.

  • How do I cancel my collection?

To cancel or change your booking, you can contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390.

You need to cancel or change at least 48 hours prior to the booking date. If the necessary notice is not provided, your Kerbside Clean Up booking will be forfeited.

One change of date or cancellation of the original booking is permitted. If items are not placed out after this 2nd booking date the booking will be forfeited.

  • Why has my Kerbside Clean Up changed from a schedule date to the booking system?

Council sought community feedback regarding kerbside clean up services in 2020. The community expressed a desire for an on-call booked Kerbside Clean Up collection to be the predominant service as opposed to the pre-scheduled collection (as was offered by the former Kogarah Council).

An online booking system is an improvement to the Kerbside Clean Up service, enabling residents to book a collection service on a date and time that suits them. This is a convenient improvement to services, compared with the pre-scheduled clean up that occurs in the former Kogarah Local Government Area, whereby Council nominated the dates of collection.

  • I am moving house. How do I access a collection?

Book a collection well in advance of your moving date. Wait times can exceed 8 weeks during peak periods.

If you are unable to get a booking or have no Kerbside Clean Up collections available, take the items with you and investigate booking a collection at your new home.

  • What if I live in a property rated as a business or non-rateable property?
    • If you live at a property that is rated as a commercial property, you are not entitled to the Kerbside Clean Up. This service is provided for domestic properties only.

    • If you are in a Non Rateable property and have commercial waste service you are not entitled to a Kerbside Clean Up collection. This is provided for domestic waste services only.

    • If you are renting a property that is rated as a business or a non-rateable property, speak to your Real Estate Agent or property manager for options to best manage your waste.
