Tree Planting
Council continually plants trees throughout our streets and public reserves through active tree planting programs.

Five Million Trees

Our ability to plant more trees has been assisted by funding from the NSW Government through The Five Million Trees for Greater Sydney Grant Program and Council's two concurrent projects:

  1. The Forest Roads, Canopy Corridors project, planting 500 trees in two corridors of low canopy cover
  2. The Cool Places, Urban Oasis project, planting trees for shade in various urban hubs throughout the area.
When updates are available, the table below will be updated with progress on the two Five Million Trees grant projects.

Forest Roads, Canopy Corridors

Cool Places, Urban Oasis

Kogarah Bay Corridor: 195 trees planted as of November 2019 in streets and parks of Beverley Park and Kogarah Bay. In-fill plantings to take place in Autumn 2020 The Cool Places, Urban Oasis project is being rolled out in select locations, with initial designs and feasability including presence of underground services being assessed for each location.
Beverly Hills Corridor: 300 trees scheduled to be planted in the streets and parks of Beverly Hills, Narwee, Peakhurst and Penshurst starting Autumn 2020

Tree Replacement

If a request to remove trees from your property has been successful, you are required to perform one of the following actions:

  • Replace that tree with two or more trees anywhere within your property boundary within six weeks; or
  • Pay an Offset Fee for tree replacement (per tree). The Offset Fee amount is to be determined by an AQF5 qualified arborist applying the Thyer Method for Tree Valuation (2011).

Council officers will determine which action is to be applied. The Offset Fee can be found under Item 1.11 – Tree Management in the Georges River Council Adopted Fees and Charges 2019-20

The conditions for tree replacement are determined by Council's two Development Control Plans and overarching Tree Management Policy.
