A vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit took place this week as Georges River Council unveiled the Culture in Colour: Mayoral Art Competition Exhibition at Hurstville Library.
The Culture in Colour: Mayoral Art Competition invited students to create artwork inspired by the cultural and festival days that are meaningful to them. From Diwali to Christmas, Lunar New Year to Eid al-Fitr, the artworks on display reflect the diverse traditions, celebrations, and stories that are important to young artists in the Georges River area.
The exhibition opening brought together students, families, and community members to celebrate the talent of local youth. Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg attended the event, awarding certificates and $50 art supply vouchers to the winners in recognition of their thoughtful and creative work.
Mayor Borg said, “It is always fantastic to celebrate the creativity and culture of our young artists.
“By sharing these important aspects of their heritage, our young artists not only express their creativity but also help build a sense of inclusion and belonging within our diverse Georges River community. I encourage everyone to visit the Culture in Colour Exhibition.”
The Culture in Colour: Mayoral Art Competition Exhibition is open to the public at Hurstville Library until Sunday 30 June 2025.
