Supporting responsible pet ownership in Georges River

07/11/2025

Georges River Council is proud to support responsible pet ownership through its Subsidised Desexing Program. Available to eligible residents, the program aims to help reduce the number of unowned animals in the community. It also promotes the health and wellbeing of the community’s beloved pets.

Available for a limited time, it will only run until all vouchers are exhausted. The reduced fees are:

  • $49.00 for cats.

  • $99.00 for dogs.

Desexing your pet has many benefits, including:

  • Improved health outcomes.

  • Better behaviour.

  • Preventing unwanted litters.

  • Saving on registration fees.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “Responsible pet ownership is so important for the wellbeing of our community and our pets.

“This program makes it easier for residents to ensure the safety and health of their cats or dogs. It will also help reduce the number of unwanted litters.

“I encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this initiative. By participating, you’re not only improving your pet’s health but also contributing to a safer and kinder community.”

The Subsidised Desexing Program is open to all Georges River Council residents over 18 years of age. Free microchipping will also be offered.

The program is available until the end of May 2026 or until all vouchers are exhausted.
