Join Georges River Council in Celebrating National Tree Day

24/07/2025

Georges River Council is inviting the community to take part in this year’s National Tree Day on Sunday 27 July, with two Council-led events designed to support and celebrate local biodiversity.

Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, which began in 1996, is now Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event, with around 300,000 volunteers each year helping to enrich their local environments.

This year, residents can roll up their sleeves at Frog’s Hollow in Oatley Park, where Council’s Bushcare team will guide a community planting session from 9.00am to 12.00pm. Located along Lime Kiln Bay, the site has been carefully selected for restoration, with native trees, shrubs, grasses, and groundcovers to be planted on the day.

No experience is necessary, as guidance will be provided by experienced Bushcare team members. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own gloves, hat, and water bottle to stay protected and hydrated throughout the day.

Council is also offering a free Native Plant Giveaway at the Mortdale Council Depot from 9.00am to 12.00pm. Residents can collect two native plants per household to help bring biodiversity into their own backyards.

Georges River Mayor Elise Borg said, “National Tree Day is a special opportunity for our community to come together and support local biodiversity.”

“By planting a variety of native species, we help create healthy habitats and a greener future for Georges River.”
