Get the Site Right March Blitz Results

07/05/2025

On Thursday 13 March, Georges River Council participated in the Get the Site Right blitz campaign, a key initiative aimed at educating builders and developers on the importance of proper erosion and sediment controls.

Get the Site Right is a joint taskforce between the Parramatta River Catchment Group, Cooks River Alliance, Georges Riverkeeper, Sydney Coastal Councils Group, Water NSW, NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), Department of Planning and Environment (DPIE). It also includes many Sydney councils, including Georges Riverkeeper member councils.

Together, these organisations enforce best practices on commercial and residential building sites, as well as major infrastructure projects, to protect our waterways and surrounding environments.

During the blitz, Council’s Compliance Team inspected a total of 64 construction sites across the Georges River area. Of these, 44 were found to be compliant with erosion and sediment control regulations, while 20 sites were non-compliant. As a result, eight (8) penalty notices were issued, totalling $30,000 in fines for non-compliance.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Our community values the health and beauty of our local environment. By participating in the Get the Site Right campaign, we are working together to ensure our waterways remain clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report water pollution incidents, including poor sediment control, to Council via our Log it/Fix it webpage or by contacting Council's Service Centre on (02) 9330 6400 or via the NSW EPA’s 24-hour Environment Line on 131 555.
