Georges River Council Celebrates NAIDOC Week 2025

04/07/2025

Georges River Council is proud to support NAIDOC Week 2025, held from Sunday 6 July to Sunday 13 July, with a range of events that honour the histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, with the theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy – a celebration of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the enduring legacy of Elders.

Guided by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee and as part of Action 1.4.3 in Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy 2025–2030, Council invited businesses and community groups to lead NAIDOC events and initiatives through an Expression of Interest process earlier this year.

Council is pleased to support the 3Bridges NAIDOC Week Community Event at Hurstville Public School and the Walking on Country Exhibition by Amy Lea Trindall (Dewrang Art) at Hurstville Museum & Gallery. Families can also enjoy NAIDOC activity booklets available across Georges River libraries and a colouring station at the museum.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “NAIDOC Week is an important time for our community to come together and reflect on the deep and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“In its 50th year, the theme The Next Generation is a powerful reminder of the strength of culture, leadership, and community across generations.

“Council is proud to support events that bring people together to listen, learn and celebrate. I encourage everyone to join in and take part.”
