Georges River Council invites the community to honour someone special or a meaningful event by planting a celebratory or commemorative tree. This will allow you to nurture and care for a tree in your garden, whilst also helping to increase tree canopy cover across the local area.
As part of our initiative, you may be eligible to receive a free native tree to plant on your property. The trees support urban canopy, create homes for local wildlife, boost mental health, and enhance neighbourhood appeal.
To be eligible for the Celebratory and Commemorative Tree Giveaway, you must:
-
Be a resident of the Georges River Council local area.
-
Have a special event to celebrate or remember, like a birthday, wedding, or the birth of a newborn.
-
Be able to collect and transport the tree to your home.
-
Only plant the celebratory or commemorative tree on private land with approval from the landowners or the owner’s corporation.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said the giveaway reinforces the importance of our environment in a meaningful way.
“We have already had such a great response from families and friends planting their native trees," Mayor Borg said.
“It is important that we act in increasing the Georges River tree canopy to maintain our diverse native tree species.”
Trees will be available while stocks last.
