Georges River Council is proud to host its second Georges River Memory Walk and Jog on Saturday 26 September at Gannons Park, Peakhurst.
The initiative is a fundraiser for Dementia Australia to support people impacted by dementia. The money raised is donated to Dementia Australia to support vital services such as counselling, education, helplines and research.
According to Dementia Australia, there are an estimated 446,500 Australians living with dementia. Without a significant intervention, the number of Australians living with dementia is expected to increase to more than 1 million by 2065.
Last year, 300 participants came together to raise over $22,500 for Dementia Australia.
The event will mark Dementia Action Week 2026 which runs from 21 to 27 September. This year’s theme for Dementia Action Week is ‘It’s time to talk about dementia’.
This is an inclusive event, everyone is welcome to take part (including furry friends)! Participants can choose from a 3.3km walk or 6.6km jog. They can also choose to challenge themselves or walk at their own pace. The path is also wheelchair accessible.
There will be fun activities for the whole family, plus a free BBQ and coffee for the first 400 Memory Walk & Jog participants.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “The Georges River Memory Walk and Jog is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and support such an important cause.
“By participating, we can help raise vital awareness and support for people living with dementia, their families and carers. I encourage all to come along!”
Georges River Council is a recognised member of Dementia Australia's Dementia-Friendly Communities program. Our dementia-friendly action plan is our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community.
