On 28 August 2025, Georges River Council participated in the
Get the Site Right blitz campaign, with Council’s Compliance team inspecting 70 development sites across the Georges River area to ensure compliance with erosion and sediment control standards.
The blitz is part of a broader campaign coordinated by the Georges Riverkeeper in conjunction with the NSW Environment Protection Authority, and local councils. It is aimed at reducing the environmental impacts of poor building practices on local waterways and communities.
Of the sites inspected, 56 were found to be compliant, while 14 were non-compliant. As a result, seven (7) penalty notices were issued, totalling $31,500 in fines for non-compliance.
Georges River Council continues to work closely with developers and builders to ensure construction sites are properly managed, particularly during periods of wet weather when the risk of sediment runoff is high.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “It’s encouraging to see that the majority of development sites are meeting compliance standards and doing their part to protect our local environment.
“By working together to maintain clean and well-managed construction sites, we’re helping to keep our waterways healthy and our community safe for the foreseeable future.”
The community is encouraged to report water pollution incidents, including poor sediment control, to Council via our
Log it/Fix it webpage or by contacting Council's Service Centre on (02) 9330 6400 or via the NSW EPA’s 24-hour Environment Line on 131 555.
