Ready to embark on your storytelling journey? This hands-on three-session writing series gives participants practical tools to develop their own story idea from a rough concept into a shaped narrative.
 
Under the guidance of a facilitator in a small group setting, you’ll learn techniques for ideation, story structure, character creation and world-building through guided exercises.
 
This program is open to all backgrounds and writing experience levels — no prior creative writing experience needed!
 
Please note, this course is a three-week commitment, Saturdays 10-24 October 10:30am-1pm, so please ensure you can attend all sessions before booking.

Week 1: Finding Your Story
In the first week, be introduced to ideation techniques, how to shape story structure and create outlines. Leave the session with the bones of your own story mapped out.
 
Week 2: Character & World
Delve into character creation by exploring motivations, arcs and relationships. Build your world by setting the rules and context your story lives in and apply structure to your growing draft.
 
Week 3: Tools to Keep Developing
In the final week, refine your self-editing and revision techniques, while learning to evaluate and strengthen your narrative. Leave with greater confidence and a practical toolkit of skills you can apply to future writing projects.

• This workshop will not be recorded and cannot be accessed after the scheduled time. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.

About the Facilitator:
The Story Mill is a boutique production company founded in 2019 by the dynamic and quirky duo Sophie Saville and Rowan Devereux. They are both accomplished filmmakers with a passion for storytelling and a wealth of experience across all stages of film production. Together, they bring years of industry expertise, having worked on a variety of projects ranging from independent films to commercial productions. Rowan and Sophie are dedicated to empowering aspiring filmmakers by sharing practical skills, creative techniques, and professional insights to help participants bring their cinematic visions to life.
