Media Lab: Introduction to Guitar

Join us for Introduction to Guitar with Tito Espinosa. This course for beginners will give you the basic skills and understanding of the instrument to have you confidently playing guitar in just six weeks.
 
By the end, you’ll have a strong foundation to continue your musical journey, whether playing independently or with others.
 
In this course you will learn:

  • The basics of rhythm and keeping time.

  • How to build chords and play scales musically.

  • To build finger strength and mobility.

  • How to sing what you play and play what you sing - play clear notes with emotion and individuality.

  • Simple Folk, Country, and Blues standards to deepen learning context.

 Bring your own acoustic guitar along or reserve one in advance from our Musical Instrument collection.

 

Every Thursday 5 November to Thursday 10 December 2026

  • Program swapping is not permitted.

  • If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.

  • This workshop will not be recorded and cannot be accessed after the scheduled time. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.

About the Facilitator:
Tito Espinosa is a songwriting, guitar playing, record producing, music/film/art nerd from New York City. His passion for folk and blues music has given him a distinct people-centred approach to teaching. For years Tito performed as Chorizo Slim and The Boogie Blues Band and now he releases music through his small label Boogie Strange Records.
