Learn the basics of acoustic guitar in a relaxed environment with other people. In these 6 workshops you will learn how to position your hand, play notes, musical exercises, and simple chord progressions.

This is beginner’s classes that will help you gain confidence and some techniques to continue learning at your own pace.

In these workshops you will learn:

  • How to play in a musical key.

  • Plectrum (pick) and finger exercises.

  • Rhythm and strumming.

  • Musical scales.

Bring your own acoustic guitar along or borrow one from our Musical Instrument Collection.

Each session can be booked individually, but it is recommended that you attend both to get the most out of the learning experience.

About the Facilitator:
The workshops will be taught by Chinese musician Tuqiang Zhang who is the guitarist and Erhu performing artist from China. Before migration to Australia, Mr. Zhang was a music teacher of the Xi'an Conservatory of Music. He played Erhu and guitar professionally in concerts in China and in Australia Chinese community.

关于讲者:讲座将由中国音乐家张图强先生教授,他是一位来自中国的吉他手和二胡演奏艺术家。在移居澳大利亚之前,张先生是西安音乐学院的音乐教师。他在中国和澳大利亚华人社区的音乐会中专业演奏二胡和吉他。

  • Participants must be aged 18 or older.

  • If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.

  • If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces, repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations may result in bookings being refused in the future.
