Book Week After School: Junk Orchestra: Make It!

This is a Council led event.

24/08/2026 - Oatley Library.

Celebrate Children’s Book Week with a fun and creative hands-on experience at the library! Discover how to transform everyday recycled materials into one-of-a-kind musical instruments, then come together to play along with our very own Junk Orchestra. Experience the excitement of creating, performing, and bringing stories to life through sound in these two workshops for 5-12 year olds to celebrate Book Week and the Symphony of Stories!

Join with our craft expert, Mary-Helen Daly, to create your very own junk instruments. In this fun, hands-on experience you will build your own “junk” musical instruments using recycled materials. Children will construct their own unique instrument such as box guitars, rattles and hand percussion by adding sound to recyclable items through materials such as rubber bands, bottle caps, string, rice, beads and toothpicks.
