Nepali Culture Connection: Dashain

Celebrate Dashain at Hurstville Library with a vibrant day of Nepali culture. Enjoy hands-on workshops, craft activities, storytelling, live performances and digital exhibitions, then sample traditional food and chai. With activities and experiences for all ages, there's something for the whole family to enjoy.

Experience and celebrate Australia’s fastest-growing migrant community with Georges River Libraries’ Nepali Culture Connection day during Dashain this October! There’ll be traditional chai making demonstrations, food to sample, performances to watch, crafts to make, and stories to listen to.
Scheduled activities include:

  • Kite making and card making Crafts 10:00am-4:00pm.

  • Digital display of the Woven from a Hundred Flowers Nepali Exhibition from Hurstville Museum & Gallery Woven from a hundred flowers . Hurstville Museum & Gallery - Connected to Culture 10:00am-4:00pm.

  • Bilingual Nepali/English Rhyme Time 10:30am-11:15am.

  • Performance by Laligurans Dance Group 10:45am-11:00am.

  • Chai demonstrations and tasting 11:00am-2:00pm.

  • Nepali food tasting 11:00am-2:00pm.

  • Performance by bansuri player Sabin Ghising 11:00am-1:00pm.

  • Performance by Shabdamala Nepalese Language School Students 2:00pm-2:15pm.

  • Performance of folk songs by Nepalese Grandparents Australia 3:00pm-3:15pm.

More Information

  • For participants aged 12 years and under, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program. For safety reasons, one parent/guardian can only be responsible for a maximum of 4 children (1:4 ratio). 

  • If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.

  • If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces, repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations may result in bookings being refused in the future.

  • The library does not endorse or promote any products which may be used in the workshop.
