This is a Council led event.
Sydney Dogs and Cats Home (Strathfield South).
03/11/2025 - 31/05/2026
Georges River Council is proud to support responsible pet ownership through our Subsidised Desexing Program, now available to eligible residents. This initiative helps reduce the number of unwanted animals in our community and promotes the health and wellbeing of your beloved pets. Council is offering significantly reduced desexing fees in collaboration with Sydney Dogs and Cats Home.
This program is available for a limited time only and will run until all vouchers are exhausted. Spots are limited, so we encourage residents to act quickly to secure their place. A maximum of 2 vouchers per household are available.
Why Desex Your Pet?
Desexing your cat or dog has many benefits, including:
-
Improved Health Outcomes
Desexed pets are less likely to suffer from serious health issues such as mammary cancer, uterine infections, and prostate problems.
-
Better Behaviour
Desexing can help reduce undesirable behaviours such as roaming, aggression, and urine marking, making your pet easier to manage and safer in the community.
-
Prevent Unwanted Litters
Help reduce the number of animals ending up in shelters by preventing accidental breeding. From 1 December 2025, strict new laws under the NSW Puppy Farm Act will apply to anyone breeding dogs, whether regular breeders, occasional breeders or those with accidental litters. See the Office of Local Government website for more information on changes to dog breeding laws.
-
Save on Registration Fees
Desexed pets attract lower registration fees if desexed by the required age, saving you money in the long term.
Who is eligible?
Open to Georges River Council residents over 18 years of age (valid photo ID showing proof of residency is required upon booking). Proof of ownership for non-microchipped animals may be required.
What services are being offered?
Program ends Sunday 31 May 2026
Note: This program is available until end of May 2026 or until vouchers are exhausted, whichever happens first.
