You are invited to a free 2-day workshop for Chinese families and supporters of people with intellectual disability.
The workshop is part of I Can Decide in My Language, a project by Council for Intellectual Disability.
The project supports people with intellectual disability from different cultural and language backgrounds to make more of their own decisions with the right support.
Families and supporters will learn about supported decision making.
Supported decision making means a person makes their own decisions with support from people they trust. Supporters can help by sharing information, talking through options, giving practical support and respecting the person’s will and preferences.
In this workshop, you will:
-
Learn practical ways to support decision making.
-
Reflect on your role as a supporter.
-
Build confidence to support decisions safely.
-
Explore how culture and family can help support decision making.
-
Share experiences and learn with other families.
The workshop will be delivered in English and Mandarin.
This workshop is welcoming, practical and designed for Chinese families and supporters.
