Empyrean Landscape: The Year of the Dragon

Fan Dongwang

27 January - 10 March 2024
Dragon's Lair Gallery

Empyrean Landscape: The Year of the Dragon presents vibrant and colourful paintings of dragons and landscapes. As an artist who has explored images of the dragon for many decades, from jade carving to acrylic painting, Fan Dongwang’s artwork presents a unique opportunity to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024, the Year of the Dragon.

The dragon is a creature of myth and legend, a symbol of good fortune strength, and health, and connects people to their past and to future advancements. The artist’s multi-layered works innovatively combine traditions drawn from traditional Chinese decorative arts with contemporary Chinese landscape painting, creating a new visual language of ‘sculptural painting’, in a unique Eastern-Western fusion style.
