Artifacts of leisure

Dragon's Lair Gallery
2 September – 8 October 2023

Artifacts of leisure in an exhibition of paintings, photographs and a video work exploring sites and behaviours associated with curated leisure around the Georges River and similar coastal environments.

Kathy Mackey was the Georges River Artist in Residence between March - April 2022. Her interest in public leisure activities and cultural tourism informs her response to historical, cultural, and environmental concerns impacting the Georges River region and beyond. Her distinctive images featuring pool noodles comment on the varied histories of ocean pools and sea baths, the role of the human form as it traverses space between open water and protected bathing areas, and how introduced artefacts of leisure can be used to represent the tensions between the natural and the artificial.
