Council seeks feedback on Draft Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay Wards Flood Study

01/10/2025

Georges River Council is inviting the community to review and have their say on the Draft Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay Wards Flood Study, now on public exhibition.

The Draft Flood Study, which was developed in line with the NSW Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy and Floodplain Risk Management Manual, is part of Council’s ongoing work to better understand and manage flood risks.

Using advanced flood modelling software and data from recent flood events, the study was prepared by independent consultants and carefully reviewed by Council’s Floodplain Risk Management Committee. It also reflects input from community members, local organisations, and the NSW State Emergency Service.

The Draft Flood Study identifies areas that may be affected by overland flooding during heavy rainfall. This information will help Council plan for safer development, improve emergency response, and guide future flood risk management strategies.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “This study is an important opportunity for the community to be informed and involved.

“It’s about giving our residents access to clear, reliable information so they can understand how flooding may affect their area.

“We’re committed to working with the community to manage these risks together, and we welcome feedback to help shape the next steps.”

Council encourages locals in the study area to view the draft report and interactive flood maps and share their feedback. There is also the option of booking a one-on-one appointment with Council staff to discuss any questions.

The consultation is open until Friday 31 October 2025. More information can be viewed on the Draft Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay Wards Flood Study webpage.
