A new community centre has started to be trucked into Peakhurst Park and assembled.
This is the first modular building construction project for Georges River Council. Modstruct Group were commissioned by Council to build the centre at their factory in Smeaton Grange.
The eight modular pieces will be trucked into Peakhurst Park one by one and fit together. The project is expected to finish by April 2026, weather permitting.
This new centre will be a multi-purpose hub where local community groups can meet, run activities, and share the space. This facility will be for shared use by various community and stakeholder groups.
Council is proposing the name "Peakhurst Park Community Centre" and consultation for place naming for this project finished on 7 February.
The centre was made possible by a $1 million Federal Government grant obtained by the Nepalese community, as well as $100,000 of State Government grant funding. Council also contributed $1.3 million to support the centre’s development. The centre will have a community hall, kitchen, bathrooms, and offices.
Mayor Elise Borg recently visited Modstruct Group in Smeaton Grange. She was joined by Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford and the project team to inspect the final phase of construction.
“This modular design, build and off-site construction is a milestone for our area, the first of its kind for Council, and it demonstrates how modern design can deliver real benefits to our residents,” she said.
“When the doors open, it will be a space that belongs to all of us, available for booking by anyone looking to run programs, meet, or connect.”
