National Science Week: Media Lab: Mini-Beast Photography

Learn about mini-beasts AND photography in this Science Week program for adults!
Be introduced to the basic manual settings on your camera and creative ways of using lighting in the Media Lab by photographing some special subjects. You will get to meet a range of mini-beast species, including huntsmen, net-casting spiders, scorpions, centipedes, millipede, stick insects, leaf insects, mantis and beetles.
In this workshop participants will:

Meet the mini-beasts – get up close with fascinating invertebrate species and discover what makes them cool.

Think small and shoot big – discover simple techniques for photographing tiny subjects with confidence and make the most of your camera settings and lighting.

Get hands on - gain experience photographing mini-beasts in a fun and safe studio environment.

Mary-Helen Daly:
This workshop is facilitated by local artist Mary-Helen Daly. She is a qualified Transpersonal Art Therapist & Counsellor who helps people become their own creative doorway.

Jacqui Love, Travelbugs Mobile Mini-Beasts:
Prior to hatching Travelbugs Mobile Mini-Beasts in 2002, Jacqui was a Senior Zookeeper at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo for almost 10 years. Although she has experience and knowledge on a broad range of animals, the Invertebrates or “mini-beasts” have always been closest to her heart, having worked with over 250 species.
