Making your own ideas a reality has never been easier thanks to the wonders of 3D design and 3D printing.
 
This hands-on workshop for beginners will explore key 3D design concepts using Tinkercad, a free and easy-to-use web-based 3D design tool. In Tinkercad, big ideas take shape starting with just simple shapes that can be moved, resized and combined to create a finished design ready to print.
 
Whether you’re interested in creativity, innovation, or simply learning a new digital skill, discover how easy it can be to create in three dimensions.
 
In this program, attendees will:

• Be introduced to computer-aided design (CAD) and the free web-based application Tinkercad.

• Learn to navigate the Tinkercad interface and create an original design.

• Understand key considerations for ensuring successful 3D printing jobs or laser cuts, including exporting files.

• Explore online 3D model collections and communities to find free and ready-made designs.

About the Facilitator:
Albert Ong is the founder of Tinkery, an edTech social startup aiming to make hands on learning accessible through creative prototyping kits and courses. Albert has over a decade of experience as a hybrid mechatronics engineer, biotechnologist and interaction designer, and has worked on a range of industry and research projects ranging from art installations at Vivid Sydney, rehabilitative games and exoskeletons, bioreactors, drones, makerspaces, industrial robots, facility management systems, green architecture, and speculative and futures design projects.
 
About the Media Lab and Digital Tools collection:
The Media Lab boasts a professional studio set up with a cyclorama wall, green screens, studio lights and Surface Studios with the full Adobe Creative Cloud. The digital tool library contains cameras, recording equipment and other digital accessories that can be borrowed for free with your library membership.
