Have you been meaning to capture the cherished stories and memories of a loved one but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you want to start capturing your own piece of history.
 
Join us for this special workshop as part of History Week (5–13 September 2026) in the Hurstville Library Media Lab. The 2026 History Week theme is Keeping Stories, inviting us to consider how do stories keep history alive and what do they tell us about ourselves?

In this workshop, podcasting and media professional Joseph Corr will take you through the basics of capturing yours and your family’s stories using everyday tools like your smartphone, bringing them to life and capturing them for generations to come.

In this program you will learn:

• Why family storytelling and preserving memories is important.

• How to prepare for an interview and interview techniques.

• How to get the most out of the recording equipment available to you, starting with your very own smartphone and microphones available from the library’s Digital Tool collection.

• The basics of post-production, free applications, and personal record keeping.
