NSW Seniors Festival is back on for 2024! 

The NSW Seniors Festival will run from Monday 11 March to Sunday 24 March 2024. The theme of the festival is ‘Reach Beyond: Seek new experiences, make new friends’.

This year Georges River Council will hold a number of events including information sessions, a special baby explorer session, and a Seniors Concert. We'll kick it all off with our Seniors Expo! At the Expo you can also find information about all the upcoming events that are part of Georges River Council's Seniors Festival.
 

Seniors Expo

Our Seniors Expo is all about getting connected and making new friends! Get connected to local services, learn ways to stay healthy, and find local activities to join. With over 30 stalls and services present, many interactive activities, and a free BBQ lunch, there is something for everyone. 

Georges River Council would like to thank Georges Estate Health and Aged Care Residence for their support of our Seniors Expo.

Date: Tuesday 12 March 2024.
Time: 10.00am - 2.00pm.
Where: Marana Auditorium, 16 MacMahon Street, Hurstville.

Cost: Free.
Booking: No need to book, just come along.

Baby Explorers - Special Grandparents Session

Join us on this special Grandparents celebration. Each ticket entitles a parent, a grandparent and a baby for this intergenerational session!

Our Baby Explorers program is designed for parents and carers of babies 12 months and under to come to Hurstville Museum & Gallery for a guided tour of the current Main Gallery exhibition.

Date: Wednesday 13 March 2024.
Time: Guided tour: 10.35am.
Sensory pit: open from 10.15am – 11.30am.
Where: Hurstville Museum & Gallery, 14 MacMahon Street, Hurstville.
Cost: $5.00 per adult participant (babies and one grandparent are free).

Author Talk

Join Georges River Libraries and author Christine Sykes for a chat about her latest novel celebrating seniors, friendship, and active retirement, The Tap Cats of the Sunshine Coast.
 
A light tea will be provided and Christine’s books will be available for purchase following the event.

Music in the Morning - Seniors Concert

Roland will be performing at Georges River Council’s Music in the Morning – Seniors Concert on Wednesday 10 April 2024 as part of his 2024 farewell tour. 

Date: Wednesday 10 April 2024.
Time: Doors open 10.30am, includes a complimentary tea/coffee from 10.30am.
Show starts 11.00am.
Where: Hurstville Entertainment Centre, MacMahon Street, Hurstville.
Cost: $20.00, Group bookings (10 or more): $15.00.

Reminiscing Session

Reminiscence therapy is an activity that involves the active recollection of life experiences. It allows individuals to relive positive personal events from their past in a way that is vivid and engaging and encourages them to communicate those experiences. Interaction with objects and images from the past aids the recollection of memories. 

Date: Please enquire when booking.
Where: Hurstville Museum and Gallery, 14 MacMahon Street, Hurstville.
Cost: $5.00 per participant. Carers and bus drivers free of charge. We have a minimum of 10 participants fee per booking.

Library Information Sessions

Georges River Libraries will have something for everyone during our Seniors Festival program. You can learn about scams and how to recognise them, hear what the Care Finder program has to offer, or improve your phone photography skills. All sessions are free, please ensure you register to reserve your spot. Information sessions include:

- Care Finder Information Session.
- Memory Lane Social Club.
- Phone Photography.
- Scam Awareness Information Session Hurstville.
- Scam Awareness Information Session Kogarah.
- Services Australia Session - Pension and Aged Care fees (Chinese).
