There are three main types of water pollution:
Litter, including cigarette butts, paper and plastic bags
Chemical pollution, including detergents, oil or fertilisers
Environmental pollution, including garden clippings, soil or animal droppings.
Tips to Reduce Water Pollution
The following activities are easy ways to help reduce water pollution:
Wash your car on the grass and reduce detergents from running down the street drain
Use green waste bins to dispose of garden waste
Put all rubbish in the bin to avoid litter being swept into the street drains
Install sediment control measures on building sites.
Reporting Water Pollution
If you witness pollution in a drain, creek or waterway, please contact Council with the following details:
Reporting pollution as close to the time of the incident as possible will greatly assist the investigation.
