Vision, Mission and Values

Vision: A progressive, environmentally and culturally rich community enjoying a unique lifestyle.

Council conducted a program of extensive community engagement to develop Georges River's first Community Strategic Plan. The Community Strategic Plan and associated documents were adopted by Council on 25 June 2018.

Mission: A leading people-focused organisation delivering outstanding results for our community and city.

Values: At Georges River Council our four values are united, professional, honest and accountable.

Achievements    

  • Received a Gold Award at the 2022 Australasian Reporting Awards for our 2020/2021 Annual Report.
 
  • Highly Commended award for the Community and Culture On Wheels - COVID-19 Safe Events Program at the 2022 Local Government Excellence Awards.
 
  • Won the Asset and Infrastructure Award (Projects over $1.5mil) at the 2022 Local Government Excellence Awards for our Lower Poulton Park Naturalisation and Carpark Construction.
 
  • Won the 'New or Improved Techniques' category for our standardised design across amenity blocks at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia’s 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards.
 
  • Highly Commended at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia’s 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards in the 'Projects Greater than $500,000 but less than $5 million' category for our Charles Pirie Inclusive Sporting Amenities.
 
  • Highly Commended at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia’s 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards in the 'Environmental Enhancement Project or Initiative including Recovering, Recycling and Reusing' category for our Gannons Park Water Quality Improvement and Stormwater Harvesting Scheme.
 
  • Won the Award for Excellence in Integrated Stormwater Design at the Stormwater NSW 2021 Awards for our Gannons Park Water Quality Improvement and Stormwater Harvesting Scheme.
 
  • Won the Energy Efficiency Achievement Award at the 2021 Cities Power Partnership National Climate Awards for our Working Towards Net Zero project, that led to a 36% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
 
  • Won the Asset and Infrastructure Award (Projects over $1.5mil) sponsored by Capstone Recruitment Asia Pacific for the 'Lower Poulton Park Naturalisation and Carpark Construction’ project.
 
  • Highly commended in the LG Professionals, NSW Awards 2022 in the Community Development Award for the 'Community and Culture on Wheels - Covid 19 Safe Events Program'.                             
 
  • ​Highly Commended in the Museums and Galleries National Awards (MAGNA) 2021 in the Best Temporary or Travelling Exhibition for our exhibition Artbomb: connect + create at Hurstville Museum & Gallery.
 
  • Won the People, Workplace, Wellbeing Award for the design and implementation of our BENE-FIT 360 program at the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards 2021.
 
  • Highly commended in the Special Project Initiative Award for our THRIVE! Learning Program at the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards 2021.
 
  • Highly commended in the Environmental Leadership Award for our Gannons Park Water Quality Improvement and Stormwater Harvesting Scheme at the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards 2021.
 
  • Won the City-shaping during COVID-19’ category in the 2021 Greater Sydney Commission Planning Awards for our Economic and Social Recovery Plan.
 
  • Won Best Planning Idea – Small Project for our ChillOUT Hubs in the Planning Institute of Australia National Awards for Planning Excellence 2021.  
 
  • Highly commended in the Local Government NSW’s Excellence in Environment Awards, in the Towards Net Zero Emissions category in recognition of Council’s actions and commitment to achieve 100% renewable energy in its operations by 2025 and net zero carbon emissions.
 
  • Won the Customer Experience award at Micro Focus Realize 2020 for the implementation of Content Manager across council.
 
  • Highly Commended in Excellence in People Culture at the 2020 Local Government Excellence Awards for River Run.
