Grants and Sponsorship

Grants, Donations and Sponsorship

Georges River Council's Grants, Donations and Sponsorship programs support initiatives and projects that build the social, cultural, environmental and economic life of the Georges River area. Through these programs, Council partners with the community and businesses to further the actions, strategic directions and vision of Council's Community Strategic Plan.

Council's Grants, Donations and Sponsorship Policy provides a framework for grants, donations and sponsorship requests made to Council. The Policy guides the application process, allocation and evaluation of funding to address community needs under Section 356 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Enquiries about the Grants, Donations and Sponsorship Policy can be directed to Council’s Community Development team on 9330 6400.

Financial Reporting Requirements

Please note new financial reporting requirements for all recipients of Council funding.
As of 1 January 2019, any organisation or entity receiving Council funding that totals more than $15,000 per annum in any financial year must provide a set of Audited Financial Statements to Council. This applies to all organisations, individuals and entities that receive grant funding (including but not limited to Community Grants, Venue Hire Grants, Heritage Grants), Councillor Ward Discretionary Funds, rental subsidies, event sponsorship and/or donations in both cash and in-kind funding. The Audited Financial Statements must be provided to Council on or before the 1st of September following the financial year in which the funding was received.

Recipients of funding in the 2018-2019 financial year should keep a tally of all funding (cash and in-kind) received from Council during this period. If, as at 30 June 2019, the total amount exceeds $15,000 you must have your organisation's financial accounts audited, and the Audited Financial Statements forwarded to Council's Grants Officer by 1 September 2019. Any grant applicants who cannot meet this condition will be deemed ineligible and be excluded from receiving future Council funding.

For a copy of the Financial Statements Template which assists community organisations to ensure that the fundamental financial reporting obligations are met, please email the Grants Officer

Grants

Georges River Council values the important work undertaken by local community groups. Council offers funding support for local organisations through a range of grant programs:

Event Sponsorship

Council welcomes requests from the community for in-kind and financial support for community run events and programs. The Grants, Donations and Sponsorship Policy outlines the way Council provides support for these activities.

To apply, please complete the External Event Application Form and Request for Council Support for Community Run Events Form and email to the Events team at events@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au. Please note, to be considered, applications must be received at least 12 weeks prior to the event. For more information, please contact the Events team on 9330 6400.

Sponsorship

Throughout the year Council hosts a range of Major Events for our residents to come together and participate in, including cultural festivals, celebrations and award ceremonies.

While hosting these activities we also collaborate with a number of local businesses that sponsor our events in the local area. Incoming sponsors assist us with the resources to improve the quality of high profile events, as well as attract visitors, enhance our reputation and foster economic development. Benefits of partnering with Council include brand exposure, greater access to reach your target audience and an alternative method to market your business, which can be less expensive than typical marketing avenues.

Sponsorship also enables businesses to build public awareness of their understanding and support of community needs.

Council offers a range of incoming sponsorship packages to appeal to a variety of organisations for the following annual events:
