Changes to your rates

Council takes great pride in its role of providing and maintaining high quality local services for our community. If Council is to continue to deliver the current level of services and facilities, we need to effectively plan for the future.

Council has decided to apply to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to change our rating structure. Council will seek approval to apply a standard minimum rate for all ratepayers across our local government area, and to increase the total rate income by 10.6% (8.1% special rate variation and 2.5% annual rate peg), with these changes to come into effect from 1 July 2020. The impact on ratepayers will vary and on average, ratepayers will pay between $1.00 and $3.00 extra per week.

Since the amalgamation of Kogarah and Hurstville Councils in 2016, there have been two rating systems for the Georges River area. We must harmonise the rating systems to create one consistent rating system.

Extensive community consultation will take place in October and November 2019, through face-to-face community information sessions and online surveys. We would like you to be involved to help choose the best option for the future.
