Up-and-coming musicians invited to perform at GRYFest 2024

30/11/2023

Calling all young musos of Georges River including bands, soloists, rappers, DJs, and any other songsmiths. It’s almost time to grab your guitar, warm up your vocal cords, or get your keyboard ready.

Are you ready to amp up and show off your musical mojo? Want to show your stuff on stage for the chance to win big?

Georges River Council is seeking young performers to take to the stage at 3Bridges Youth Zone, Penshurst Park as part of Council’s and 3Bridges’ Battle of the Beats youth music competition in celebration of Youth Week in April 2024. There will be close to $5,000 in prizes up for grabs.

We’re rolling out the red carpet for young and emerging musicians in Georges River, with expressions of interest now open for musical acts to show their stuff on the big stage. But be quick, applications will close faster than a guitar solo, so get your application in by 26 February 2024.

“If you’ve got the tunes, we’ve got the stage and the spotlight,” said Georges River Mayor Sam Elmir.

“We’re inviting any young musicians with connections to Georges River who want to share their sound to submit an expression of interest to join Battle of the Beats 2024. Get involved and help us showcase a line-up of some of Georges River’s best up-and-coming musical talent.”

Mayor Elmir described Battle of the Beats as a cornucopia of sounds spanning all genres and the headline event of the annual Georges River Youth Festival – GRYFest.

“Battle of the Beats 2024 will be bigger and better than ever, with up to $5,000 in prizes up for grabs for the best performers on the day.”

Musical acts will be judged on the day by a panel of community judges and/or young people in accordance with 5 criteria: creativity, showmanship, audience engagement, musicality, crowd response.

“We want to celebrate our best young musicians, put them in the spotlight, and support their journey towards becoming the next big thing in Georges River and beyond”, Mayor Elmir said.

GRYFest is an annual celebration held during Youth Week by Georges River Council with events for – and planned by – young people including members of Council’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).
