Georges River Council would like to thank our community for helping shape the Mortdale Local Centre Master Plan.
 
The October meeting of Council was a great example of community participation in local decision making with the public gallery of the Council chambers and the viewing gallery full of community members.
 
Councillors listened to a number of speakers with a range of views and sharing different expertise or perspectives before making the decision on the Master Plan.
 
The Mortdale Local Centre Master Plan process has been strengthened through the level of community engagement. Almost 1,000 submissions were received through the latest consultation period in June / July 2023, which complements hundreds of submissions through early rounds of consultation. Feedback from the community has been even-handed with multiple changes and iterations to the Master Plan facilitated through these processes since 2019.
 
Council’s adopted Mortdale Local Centre Master Plan will provide for additional residential dwellings and increase residential choice. The Master Plan will facilitate a vibrant and activated future for the Mortdale Town centre.
 
Council has already been delivering significant public domain improvements through the existing Mortdale Town Centre Streetscape Upgrade Project. The implementation of the Master Plan would facilitate further improvements including active transport upgrades, green link upgrades, and laneway upgrades.
 
In response to community concerns about traffic and parking Council resolved to hold a workshop with Councillors to identify the key parking, traffic and road networks issues that would be considered in a future traffic study.
 
Council also resolved to include design excellence principles and controls in the Development Control Plan for the Mortdale Local Centre to ensure building design promotes and compliments the village atmosphere.
 
All persons who made a submission will be advised of Council’s decision.

Mortdale is identified as one of eight ‘Local Centres’ in the Georges River Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) 2040 including Oatley, Penshurst, Riverwood, Beverly Hills, Kingsgrove, South Hurstville and Ramsgate.
 
The LSPS sets out a 20-year land use vision for the LGA to manage future growth and realise the regional/district plans. The LSPS sets out a roadmap to deliver the community’s vision of “A productive place to live, work and enjoy- with diverse, active, green, well designed and connected places”.
