Memorial Trees in Georges River

25/07/2023

Did you know that Georges River Council’s Place Naming Policy allows you to nominate names for unnamed places, roads, and Council buildings in the area? The Policy also allows you to request an unmarked memorial tree to commemorate a loved one who has passed.

Memorial trees are of great importance, they can serve as living tributes to remember individuals, events or milestones. Memorial trees can be a symbol of remembrance, it can be a powerful way to honour and remember loved ones who have passed away.

Mayor Nick Katris said, “Memorial trees provides a living tribute that can endure for generations, keeping a loved one’s memory alive. Memorial trees hold significance as powerful symbols that honour the past and contribute positively to the present and future”.

Memorial tree plantings are unmarked, meaning that signs, plaques or fences are not allowed, and the species of tree and location of the memorial planting will be determined by Council.
